Horse Hospital

Horse Hospital imagines a place somewhere between a veterinary clinic, a museum, a sanctuary, and a dream. Horses stand in examination rooms, wander night corridors, wait beside monitors and cables that seem both functional and faintly theatrical. The roles are never fixed. In some rooms the horse is the patient. In others it stands quietly over a human figure lying on a gurney, attending, examining, or simply keeping watch.

The living horses are not alone. Skeletons move through the same spaces, standing in display cases, descending stairwells, pausing in doorways, sometimes face to face with the animals they once were or will become. Whether they are anatomical specimens, ghosts, or memories the building cannot discharge is left open.

Red and orange forms recur throughout the series: shapes like exposed organs pressed against windows, a mane dissolving into something rawer, a blurred figure the colour of flesh swimming through a basin of dark water. Against the sterile blue architecture, these living, almost abstract shapes hold the paintings in tension: care and fragility, science and mystery.

The compositions are sparse, the palette nocturnal, and the empty beds outnumber the occupied ones. Silence becomes an active presence. Nothing specific happens in these rooms. Or it has already happened, and the viewer has arrived too late.
