Train Dreams

Train Dreams is a series of quiet, cinematic paintings set where memory and dream begin to overlap. Railway tracks run through the corners of furnished rooms, a train approaches inside a framed picture, and a locomotive burns on the horizon while the landscape around it stays perfectly calm. Interiors open onto lines that should not be there, and the outside keeps arriving indoors: bare white trees grow through floorboards, and tracks pass beneath windows as if the rooms themselves were stations.

The recurring objects, a black bird, white trees, eggs, empty houses, a skull beside a toy train, distant fires, suggest a narrative without explaining it. They behave like fragments remembered after waking: familiar, but impossible to reassemble. The egg and the skull sit on the same tables, beginnings and endings arranged as casually as breakfast.

The railway is both a physical route and a psychological one. It carries departure, exile, anticipation, and the strange suspension between leaving and arriving. No passengers appear. The houses stand open and unoccupied, the platforms wait, and even the fire keeps its distance. The landscapes feel simultaneously inhabited and deserted, as though time has paused mid-journey.

Drawing on surrealism, post-war painting, and dream logic, Train Dreams maps an emotional geography of displacement rather than a specific place. Each painting is an open scene. The story belongs to whoever boards it.
